How do I put your books onto my e-reader (Kindle, iPad, Nook, etc)?
When you buy a book directly from the manufacturer of an e-reader (for example, buying a Kindle book directly from Amazon or a NOOK book directly from Barnes and Noble), you may be used to the book automatically appearing on your reader.
Because we are an independent provider not associated with any of the major book resellers, you will need to take a few extra steps to load this book onto your reader.
The “How To” of putting the book on your device is going to depend on what type of device you are using. Because of the vast array of options and ever-changing technology regarding electronic reading, it’s impossible for us to include options for every possible scenario, but some of the most common are detailed below.
When in doubt, a quick online search of your specific device and the word “sideloading” should lead you to articles and videos with detailed instructions.
Which version of the files should I use?
The e-book version of Holistic Help for Hemochromatosis comes with options to download two different file formats. Deciding which version to use depends on how you plan to read your book.
- PDF: This is the easier format to read on any computer as long as you have a free PDF reader installed (i.e. Adobe Acrobat). PDFs are usually easiest to read on a full-size computer, laptop, or large tablet, but e-readers will allow you to import them as well.
- EPUB: Almost every major e-reader uses this format. EPUB works well on Kindle, Nook, iPad, Kobo, etc.
The e-book version of Cooking for Hemochromatosis comes in only one format, the PDF.
- This is because this cooking resource contains many graphs, charts, illustrations, and carefully formatted recipes that will not translate well into the EPUB format. The PDF preserves the layout on the page and provides the best experience for you, the reader.
- You can put the PDF version of this book onto any e-reader devices so this will not limit your ability to view this book anywhere you wish.
Because of the larger sizes of these files, we recommend first downloading them to a computer, not a mobile device. You can then follow the instructions on the next page to transfer the book files from your computer to your mobile device or e-reader.
KINDLE
- Download the EPUB or PDF file and save it on your desktop or someplace on your computer you can easily access.
- To load the e-book file to any Kindle Reader or Kindle App, we recommend Amazon’s “Send to Kindle” options: https://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle
Recommended Versions for Kindle:
- Holistic Help for Hemochromatosis: EPUB
- Cooking for Hemochromatosis: PDF (Amazon may invite you to convert your PDF to the Kindle format. We advise against doing this as the conversion process will strip the formatting from the PDF, rendering all the graphs, charts, and recipes unreadable.)
APPLE (Mac computer / iPad / iPhone):
If you use an iPhone or iPad but a PC computer, you may wish to install the Kindle Reader for Mac on your mobile device, then follow the instructions for “Kindle” above.
These instructions are designed for someone who uses only Apple devices and wants to read on a native Apple e-reader.
- Download the EPUB or PDF file and save it on your desktop or someplace on your Mac computer you can easily access.
- Launch Apple Books from your Mac computer
- Go to the Books app on your Mac.
- Choose File > Import.
- Navigate to the EPUB or PDF book file you just downloaded and add it to your library.
